What is the power of breath?
It is not only what keeps us alive but it is also what can make the difference between vibrancy and sluggish!
Yes we must breathe to survive! It is however how you breathe that determines the difference between survival and vibrant energy.
Most people breathe very shallow and into their upper chest. This does not allow for proper oxygenization nor does it allow for proper cleansing.
This is especially apparent when you are tired or stressed.
The proper breathe is a deep diaphragmic breathe where you literally pull the air into your lower lungs by expanding your diaphragm. How do you know if you are doing this correctly? When you inhale your stomach should expand outward and when you exhale you are pushing out. Don't worry this will not make you stomach larger those muscles are designed to stretch! Also breathe in through you nose and out through your mouth.
How can you change this pattern? Does it take effort and time?
The good news it is simple and you are already breathing so it will take no longer to breathe to live with vibrancy.
It is a very simple pattern based on one of two simple formulas.
The first being a 1-4-2 pattern. The steps are as follows:
1) Inhale for 1 count
2) Hold for 4 counts
3) Exhale for 2 counts
4) Inhale for as long as you can then exhale for as long as you can
5) Repeat all steps 10 times and do this 3-4 times daily.
Example if you inhale for a count of 5 hold for 20 then exhale for 10, if you inhale for 10 hold 40 then exhale for 20. Adjust the counts to what you are comfortable with. This exercise like any other improves with practice.
The second being a 1-3-2 pattern.
This is exactly the same as the 1-4-2 pattern except you hold for a 3 count instead of 4. Which should you use?
Which ever you are most comfortable with they both work!
You will notice increased energy and alertness very quickly. What you may not notice is that your body will be cleansing itself of toxins and renewing itself with the assistance of increased oxygen and this tends to help your body fight off illness and disease more efficiently. This pattern of breathing also stimulates your lymphatic system which is the waste disposal system of our bodies. Deep breathing moves the lymph so the toxins can be eliminated. Our blood system has a pump, our heart. What then moves the lymph?? Deep breathing and aerobic exercise.
It is my goal to bring this to you in a plain English and easy to understand format. There is much scientific research available on this and I believe that if it is simple to understand and simple to practice then you will do it.
MY CHALLENGE TO YOU:
Do this for 14 days and keep a little log of how you feel each day and the times that you did your breathing exercises and how you felt after. After 14 days check in with yourself and see what changes have come from this simple exercise and if you notice a positive change then why not just continue for the rest of your vibrant life! Oh, yes and by the way if you find you are feeling good from this feel free to exceed the 3-4 times daily, by all means don't let me hold you back! *
